Application

Liquid-phase hydrogenation in stirred-tank and loop reactors, where the catalyst is filtered and recycled.

Slurry nickel gives high activity across a wide range of duties and settles rapidly in most liquids, which simplifies catalyst-product separation; it is supplied promoted or unpromoted, with iron and chromium promoters for nitrile-to-amine reduction and molybdenum for dextrose-to-sorbitol conversion.

Slurry cobalt is supplied under water with specialized promoters, and is more selective than nickel where high activity causes side reactions such as hydrogenolysis, notably in the production of primary amines from nitriles.

Slurry copper suits reaction pathways that need a high degree of selectivity, including aldehyde hydrogenation, alcohol dehydrogenation and ester hydrolysis.

Powdered alloy catalysts in other metal compositions and particle sizes are manufactured to order.

Handling & safety. Slurry catalysts are supplied as a wet catalyst mud (~50% water) in special metallic drums with pressure-release valves. The catalyst is pyrophoric (UN 2881) and must remain submerged in liquid to prevent air exposure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the catalyst shipped and stored?
As a wet catalyst mud (~50% water) in special metallic drums with pressure-release valves. It is pyrophoric (UN 2881) and must remain submerged in liquid to prevent air exposure.
Slurry or fixed-bed: which do we need?
Slurry catalysts (fine powders, D50 from 25 µm) suit stirred-tank and loop reactors where the catalyst is filtered and recycled. Fixed-bed alloy granules (1.7–6.7 mm) suit continuous flow reactors.
What happens to spent catalyst?
Envitrack runs a recovery programme for spent activated metal catalysts: safe handling and metal value reclamation.
Are other sizes available?
Yes. Wherever a size is listed with an asterisk, other particle sizes are available on request. Tell us your bed geometry and pressure-drop limits and we will recommend a size.
Can we get a full technical data sheet?
Yes. Request the TDS using the form on this page and our technical team will send the current edition by email.
Can we test before committing to a full charge?
For several ranges Envitrack supplies samples and facilitates pilot testing under your plant conditions. Ask us about sample testing for this product.
Who supports installation and start-up?
The same technical people who develop the catalysts. Start-up support, characterization, performance testing and troubleshooting are delivered on site by Envitrack specialists.
