Applications

RCAT® Applications

RCAT® products can be used across a range of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation applications.

CatalystApplicationsIndustrial processes
RCAT®-3990Double and triple bond hydrogenation, aldehyde hydrogenation1,4-BDO, EG, fatty alcohol hydro-polishing
RCAT®-2090Alcohol dehydrogenation, aldehyde hydrogenationHydrogenation of aldehydes to alcohols, alcohol amine dehydrogenation
RCAT®-4910Nitrile hydrogenation, reductive aminationsIPDA, HMDA, MXDA, etc.

Application

Continuous flow reactors, where fixed-bed operation is the efficient, cost-effective route. The alloys are supplied unactivated for activation on site. Nickel alloys are versatile and highly active, performing well at relatively low temperatures with a strong cost-performance balance, and suit aldehyde hydrogenation, fatty alcohol production, double and triple bond hydrogenation, and general-purpose duties. Cobalt alloys stay reliable under higher-pressure, demanding conditions, including carbonyl and syngas-related processes where robustness matters. Copper alloys are more selective than nickel and reduce the risk of over-hydrogenation, which suits aldehyde and ester hydrogenation and the selective conversion of alcohols and carbonyl derivatives.

Key product capabilities and benefits

  • Nickel, copper and cobalt alloys for continuous fixed-bed operation
  • Supplied unactivated for activation on site, with long mechanical life
  • Two granule sizes to balance activity against pressure drop

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the alloys need activation?
Yes. They are supplied unactivated as nickel, copper or cobalt–aluminium alloys and are activated on site before service.
Slurry or fixed-bed: which do we need?
Fixed-bed alloy granules (1.7–6.7 mm) suit continuous flow reactors. Slurry catalysts (fine powders, D50 from 25 µm) suit stirred-tank and loop reactors where the catalyst is filtered and recycled.
What happens to spent catalyst?
Envitrack runs a recovery programme for spent activated metal catalysts: safe handling and metal value reclamation.
Are other sizes available?
Yes. Wherever a size is listed with an asterisk, other particle sizes are available on request. Tell us your bed geometry and pressure-drop limits and we will recommend a size.
Can we get a full technical data sheet?
Yes. Request the TDS using the form on this page and our technical team will send the current edition by email.
Can we test before committing to a full charge?
For several ranges Envitrack supplies samples and facilitates pilot testing under your plant conditions. Ask us about sample testing for this product.
Who supports installation and start-up?
The same technical people who develop the catalysts. Start-up support, characterization, performance testing and troubleshooting are delivered on site by Envitrack specialists.
